Piper’s Music Box

The project explored taking everyday elements and transforming the mundane to the magical; scaling up the overlooked. Take a music box, a fully equipped show set design element from the seating within the box to where the ballerina spins. The box plays the most delicate music and when closed, evokes the feeling of a secret life within. This music box in particular, belongs to Piper.

Carillon, her ballerina statuette, danced to her music box’s song every night. Every move she performed, a new structure was created from the toys around her room and the parts of the music box. Each night, the magic was kept alive through Piper’s friends unraveling the realms of their own music boxes at stayovers. By the end of the night, they would all be huddled under the starry night on Piper’s balcony, sleeping gently with the warmth of the music box’s light resting on their cheeks.

Piper knew, the magic would last not only through the night, but through years to come.

The project utilized 3dsMax as the modeling and rendering engine.
